Apple just recently came out with the iPad. What is it exactly? Well, the Apple iPad, which has been selling like crazy and shot Apple stocks straight up, is a touch screen tablet computer about the size of a magazine with three models that connect to the Internet over WiFi (16 GB for $499, 32 GB for $599, and 64 GB for $699).
And then there are three that use a combination of WiFi and AT&T’s 3G wireless (16 GB for $629, 32 BG for $729, and 64 GB for $829) and you pay as you go for the data subscription.
The new Apple iPad, like it’s counterparts the iPhone and the iPod Touch run the same software. Apple calls their software for these the ‘iPhone OS,’ and is usually regarded as ‘One of the most successful operating systems designed for use with touch screen devices.’
If you are familiar and have used the iPhone or iPod Touch, the iPad will feel immediately familiar. Straight out of the box of the iPad, you get many of the iPhones capabilities, i.e. Apple-designed applications for web browsing, email, maps, music, video, photos, YouTube, and much more.
More applications can be installed using the App Store software or by connecting the iPad to iTunes through your computer using the included cable. As well, if you already own the applications on your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can easily transfer these applications to the iPad as well.
And once again, Apple did not skimmed on the design of the iPad and is exceptional. The screen is made up of the same oleophobic-coated glass as the iPhone, which makes it easy to wipe way smudges and fingerprints in inevitably collects.
Behind the glass is an LED-backlit, 9.7-inch capacitive touch screen that uses in-plane switching technology for above average viewing angles, and below the screen is a home button that looks and acts just like the ones on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and bounces you out of any open application and places you back on the main menu.
The backs and sides of the iPad are wrapped around with mattle aluminum and tapers a bit around the edges, and unlike the iPhone, the back of the iPad is less likely to show any wear and tear.
For apple devotees, the iPad’s refined feel and high-quality materials won’t surprise them. And the design feels distinctly upscale, especially given its low price. And unlike the Asus Eee PC, the Amazon Kindle, or Fusion Garage JooJoo, the iPad loks like it was made on a different planet…one where plastic doesn’t exist.
The iPads size is also very adequate for web browsing, reading books, and checking your email, I’ve found the magazine sized screen is perfectly adequate. The iPad’s screen is 9.7 inches, which makes it more than adequate for the aforementioned.
And I’d be lying if I said the iPad was heavy considering it comes in at a small 1.5 pounds.
Yes, Apple has done it again. I can’t wait to see what they come out with next. Thank you Apple for your wonderful designs.
